ASTANA, Kazakhstan -- The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has announced a renewed partnership with online learning giant Coursera, locking in access to world-class digital skills training for tens of thousands of Kazakh students. The deal, effective immediately, integrates for-credit courses and industry certifications into the nation's university system.
The renewal deepens a collaboration that has already reached over 235,000 students and generated more than 500,000 certificates across 100+ universities. Officials say the move is critical as Kazakhstan races to modernize its workforce in the face of rapid digital transformation.
Key Focus: AI Literacy and Career-Ready Skills
Under the expanded agreement, students can earn recognized credentials in fields like data science, cybersecurity, AI, engineering, and finance. These courses are designed to bridge the gap between academic curricula and employer demands.
"This partnership is not just about access to content; it is about equipping every Kazakh graduate with the skills they need to thrive in the global digital economy," said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Background: A Strategic Partnership Since 2022
Coursera first partnered with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education in 2022. Since then, the collaboration has focused on aligning university programs with market needs through for-credit online learning from over 375 leading companies and universities.
